"Good Morning America" hit the road to find the sweetest spots across the country, for everything from cakes and cookies to ice cream.

Mobile ice cream sandwich cart, Honey + Milk in Minnesota, is run by husband-wife duo Shanan and Kaley Lau. They have reworked cookie recipes to find the perfect exterior for an ice cream sandwich.

The pair joined "GMA" on Monday to share what sets their sweets apart.

"Freshness and quality. Our cookies are made fresh and soft with organic ingredients and recipes that have been fine-tuned for years," Lau said. "Sweet science ice cream uses all local and organic ingredients and is made in small batches so everything is made within weeks of it being served. Everything is made from scratch."

The dessert duo said they tend to go for a cakey texture versus that of a chewy cookie because the exterior "needs to be soft enough to bite through when frozen." They said the texture should be similar to the classic, slender rectangle chocolate cookie ice cream sandwich.

They also advised to use a cookie scoop to ensure a consistent size and bake for each cookie.

Temperature matters. For a softer cookie, they suggest using cold, freshly scooped ice cream that's "biteable, but not soft."

Make the right size for the situation, they also said. Making smaller ice cream sandwiches ensures the person eating can finish it before it melts, plus, they said "it looks cuter and you can try more than one."

Use quality and fresh ingredients.

Customize the sandwiches for each person and enjoy eating them with friends.
